Highlights from the Opening Ceremony: 2024 NQ Games

Last night the 2024 NQ Games was officially opened at Cairns’ Fogarty Park – the rain just barely impacting and estimated 1,500 in the athletes march and another couple thousand attendees over a couple of hours.

The traditional athlete’s march was led by a precession of Cairns Regional Council staff and representatives including Mayor Amy Eden, and Councillor Rhonda Coghlan.

Flanked right behind them were NQ Games Ambassadors in Australian Rugby League representative Libby Cook-Black and 2x Paralympic Medallist Grant ‘Scooter’ Patterson.

After a beautiful rendition of the Australian National Anthem, Cr Coghlan, Mayor Eden and MP Michael Healy (State Minister for Sport) welcomed the crowd before local boxer Leah Rueben read aloud the Athlete’s Oath.

The NQ Games Torch made it’s way through a couple of VIPs and was ultimately lit at the Cauldron by Libby Cook-Black
