The 2026 North Queensland Games were hosted across Mackay, Isaac and the Whitsundays, bringing together more than 2,500 participants to compete in 26 sports across multiple weekends in April and May 2026.
Competition commenced on 26 April, with the majority of sports contested during the Games weekend of 1–4 May, before concluding with additional events on 23–24 May and 30–31 May. The Games officially opened with a community-led Opening Ceremony featuring the March of Athletes, live entertainment, fireworks and the 7NEWS 100m Sprint.
Games Ambassadors included Olympians Natalie Cook OAM OLY and Tori West, who attended the Games and engaged with athletes and spectators throughout the event. West also competed in Athletics as part of her preparation for a Commonwealth Games campaign, highlighting the role of the North Queensland Games in supporting athletes at all levels of competition. Professional boxer Liam Paro was also a Games Ambassador but was unable to attend due to competing commitments.
Held across the three host regions, the Games showcased the strength of regional sport and provided opportunities for athletes of all ages and abilities to compete close to home. The event celebrated the proud legacy of the North Queensland Games and reinforced its position as the largest regularly held multi-sport event in regional Australia.
