Fireworks Notice | May 1st 2026

North Queensland Sports Foundation is set to host the NQ Games Opening Ceremony.

 
This ceremony will be staged on Friday 1st May from 6pm until 9pm at Harrup Park – one of Mackay’s top leisure and sporting facilities.  

An exciting program of evening activities has been scheduled to cater to all ages – but specifically targeting families. A site layout has been created to cater for live entertainment, children’s amusements, market stalls and food vendors. 

To cater for these activities, there may be increased traffic in the area. Traffic Controllers will be present between 5pm and 9pm on Friday 1st May on Bridge Road, just East of the intersection with Juliet Street, and may also be present at the Juliet Street entrance to Harrup Park. Event day signage will be erected.  

We would also like to inform you about the a fireworks demonstrations planned at Harrup Park on field 4: 

  • Fireworks fired at 7:30pm – duration approximately 5 minutes 

However, in the event that we experience inclement wet weather we will cancel this display.
